What is a Nutritional Consulting Practitioner?

An RNCP is a qualified practitioner who provides to individuals or groups, guidance pertaining to the building and maintenance of nutritional well-being. Such counsel may include:
  • Recommending food selection and preparation.
  • Recommending food supplements (vitamins, minerals, enzymes, glandular concentrates, protiens, essential fatty acids).
  • Educating clients about the benefits of a sound nutritional program to encourage the body to heal itself.
  • Evaluation of clients food intake, usually over a given week. Particular attention is paid to the proportions of protein, fat, starches, sugars, and fibre consumed.
  • Designing a program specifically for each client taking into consideration such factors as height, weight, age, sex, level of exercise activity, dietary goals, food preferences, sensitivities to specific foods, and dietary habits in respect to their diet and nutritional deficiencies.
Did you know that every person is biochemically unique? RNCPs can assess individual nutritional imbalances and weaknesses to enchance your immune system and recommend specific diets and nutritional support to help you build and maintain well-being.

For example, until food sensitivities are corrected, some people must avoid certain foods, such as most breads and pasta if gluten intolerant, and dairy if lactose intolerant or casein intolerant. For others, it may be necessary to eat alkaline foods while detoxifying; therefore, the suggested two or three servings of meat per day in the Canada Food Guide would be inappropriate for a time.

RNCPs are required to carry professional liability insurance thus certain private or extended health care benfit plans cover their services. Check your policy to see if you have insurance coverage for complementary services.

Our bodies work constantly to stay in balance. A Registered Nutritional Consulting Practitioner can teach you how proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle can support this natural process.
